Catherine Parr
God––
the Henry the Eighth of the heavens.
He consistently ignores the “Do Not Disturb”
sign on her cloud.
When he mounts her,
she turns her head to the side and fantasises about hell.
There’s never any real release.
Some physical (for him), but that’s all.
Win-win is an illusion.
He is eternal. But so is his self-loathing.
In those moments when oblivion’s pull is potent,
the ghost of Catherine Parr whispers to her, “Survive him.”
